The Federal Reserve Board Wednesday lowered its key lending rate a full percentage point to 12 percent in a move that should result in further declines in bank interest rates. Rep. Raymond F. Lederer, D-Pa., was indicted Wednesday on charges of bribery and conspiracy, becoming the second House member charged in the Abscam political corruption investigation. A federal grand jury in Brooklyn, N. Y., said Lederer received $50,000 from an undercover FBI agent posing as a representative of wealthy Arab businessmen. On Tuesday, the grand jury indicted Rep. Michael O. Myers — like Lederer a Philadelphia Democrat. In Chicago a woman and her two adult daughters were charged Wednesday with cheat ing welfare agencies out of $250,000 over the last 11 years. One used 8 names for herself and dozens of names for fictitious children in collection $150,000 in public aid checks. Mark Boyles defeated John Biedler 6-2, 6-2 to win the singles and in the doubles Lee Haslam and Digit Laughridge defeated Tim Corbett and Gay Corpening 7-5. 6-4. Haslam and Laughridge advance to the District Tourna ment to be held in Morganton this weekend. Races Coming Up For Fabulous Fourth There will be 3, 5 and 10 mile foot races and bicycle races at the Polk County Fabulous Fourth in Columbus. Maggie Kelly, President of the Polk County Chamber of Commerce suggests that everyone should start their training now to get in condition for the events. Vacation Bible School Vacation Bible School will be conducted Monday, June 2nd through Friday, June 6th from 6:30 to 9 p.m. each evening at Peniel Baptist Church, Colum bus. Classes will be held for ages 3 through 21 and the public is invited to attend. Rev. Bill Pate is the pastor. B. B. Flynn has returned to his home in Tryon after being a patient at St. Luke’s Hospital. Homecoming At Gowensville Church Homecoming will be observed Sunday at the Gowensville Baptist Church. Rev. Ben Landrum of Anderson, S. C., a former pastor, will bring the message at 11 a m. Lunch will be at 12:30 p.m. Public is invited. Bus Rodeo Sat. At 10:30 All Polk County and Tryon School bus drivers are eligible to participate in a school bus rodeo Saturday at 10.30 a.m. at the Tryon High School parking lot. Contestants will undergo a safety obstacle course that tests skill, accuracy and speed. Prizes will be awarded to the winning drivers. Driver Training Franklin McKaig will begin a driver training course for youth between the ages of 14*2 and 18 on June 9th at 7 a.m. at Tryon High School The youths must be residents of Tryon Township. Saluda Medical Center Elects Officers At the annual meeting of the Saluda Medical Center the following officers were elected: Marleen D. Kilver, Pres.; Mrs. Dorothy Reese, Vice Pres.; Mrs. Mozelle Mints. Sec.-Treas. Newly elected members of the Board of Directors are Otis Campbell, Mrs. Betty Brown. Mrs. Sharon Winters. CHILDREN’S CHOIR CONCERT SUNDAY The Music Ministry of the First Baptist Church of Landrum will present the Preschool. Music Makers, and Young Musicians Choirs in a Spring Concert on Sunday, June 1 at 7:30p.m. These choirs, consisting of 62 voices, are made up oi boys and girls from age 4 — 11. The repertoire for the evening will be songs learned during the year, and will include those learned for the State Music Festival by the Young Musicians Choir. NURSES MEET The North Carolina Mountain Chapter of the American Associ ation of Critical Care Nurses will sponsor a program emphasizing Blood Disorders and Blood Products.
